For the last couple of years, five questions have been at the top of my list. I call them my “balancers” because if the answers are in good shape, amazing things follow. How often do I check-in with my 5-Balancer Questions? About four times a year, with the winter months offering a substantial advantage because when you live in the land of snow, there are many chilly (OK, freezing) evenings where a snug throw, a cup of tea, and a warm fireplace all conspire to set the stage for an open and … [Read more...]
Thank You Ray Anderson – Mildred Lynn McDonald
In 2011, one of the cornerstones of my eco-learning triangle, Ray Anderson, passed away. How do I feel? It is a mixture. Pensive and sad for the loss of a great man; grateful and appreciative for the opportunity to observe a life marinated in honesty, courage, and integrity; and on a very human level, uneasy about the loss of a real-life cornerstone. Yes, it always felt safer knowing that the eco-business perspective of Ray Anderson was out there. It also reminded me of my journey: A little … [Read more...]
Is Your Personal Belief System Up-to-date? – Mildred Lynn McDonald

Plus, if you can believe … [Read more...]

I recently watched a 2.5 minute video showing undercover footage of the mistreatment of farm animals inside of one of the USA’s largest pork producers. (Yes, I am talking about factory farming and it is much worse than you may expect). The graphic images shook me up and I wondered “How can this be true? Don’t we have laws for this?” The video speaks for itself, so if you choose to watch it (not recommended for children) you will have an opportunity to formulate your own opinion according to your … [Read more...]
Have you been ‘Greenwashed’ by your Personal Care Products? – Mildred Lynn McDonald
Recently, I’ve noticed that there is a resurgence of tips, ideas, and recipes for making your own personal care products. This is an idea that I’ve fantasized about now and then, although if truth be known, the closest I’ve come to living the dream is whipping up a batch of uber-healthy (and tasty) hair conditioner from common kitchen ingredients. Although the project was a success, I didn’t pursue it any further. Why? The main reason is that there were already several stores in my community … [Read more...]
